The college football postseason is the worst champsionship "series" in existence. This past week made me realize we will NOT be lucky enough to see a change in format, at least not anytime soon. The arguments for the BCS are basically non-existent. For example, how do you defend a school like Notre Dame getting so many great bowl games? They have been overratted for the past decade and don't even know how to win a bowl game (in fact, they often struggle to make them competitive). The decision for who gets to play in the national championship is ridiculous. We are talking about a computer and people's opinions choosing who gets to play for the title and who gets to play in the biggest bowl games. Look at it this way, if that was how they did things in the NFL, you would never see the New York Giants upset the undefeated New England Patriots. It wouldn't happen...you would see Green Bay-New England or Dallas-Indianapolis every other year. I used to be a big college football fan, but I have a hard time following getting too into college football knowing the postseason is determined by a computer and bias-ridden individuals. There will always be someone who feels snuffed, just like the NCAA men's hoops tournament, but you will make a much more exciting postseason with a playoff tournament format. Take the top ten, or top 15 teams, set up a tournament, and play one round per a week if you want. The national championship is a month after the regular season anyway, so why not play meaningful -postseason games during that month, not the all-tell taco bell walmart best buy cheetos bowl presented by chevy. The regular season will matter even more because you will have to be tops in the nation to play, and let us see a championship game that doesn't feature a powerhouse waxing some over-rated traditional school. Make ALL of the postseason worth watching! Andrew Liebetrau Back |
