02:19 PM on Tuesday May 06, 2008Intrigued, I am. Sorry to go Yoda on you, but I watched Episode III on Spike TV Sunday. I'm not a Star Wars nerd or anything like that, but they are quality movies. Back on point, I might be interested in this whole Mike D'Antoni going to Chicago talk. His up and down system has produced a 253-136 record in five seasons down in Phoenix. Of course, there have been a couple knocks including his playoff performance and lack of defense. All that being said, it could work well with the Bulls. Think of the Bulls personnel for a moment and how Chicago has been without a big man for years. D'Antoni's system could minimize that fault and turn it into a positive by constantly running up and down. Ben Gordon and Luol Deng suddenly are licking their chops. Both have been rumored in the past, along with Thabo Sefolosha, Joakim Noah, and Tyrus Thomas, in trade talks with Phoenix. This is no accident. D'Antoni must think these guys fit his system. Kirk Hinrich could serve as a poor man's Steve Nash (not because he's white!), but because his skill set is similiar to Nash's. Also, maybe D'Antoni could be what Kinrich needs to jump start his career again. Drew Gooden isn't near the athlete that Amare Stoudemire is but could serve that role. Who knows about Larry Hughes but you're stuck with him John Paxson. $12 million a year for that guy and I don't care he's from St. Louis. Then the bench could be tweaked based on the draft and role players that fit the system. And the big thing is the Eastern Conference. All the teams out East aren't used to seeing this system. Sure, maybe a couple times a year but not night in and night out. Also, the East is improving but still less talented than the West. The Bulls should make the playoffs and then who knows. Take your chances and see what happens. This team might actually do better in the playoffs because at least guys on the roster have played defense in the past unlike down in Phoenix. All in all, go ahead and make the move Paxson because that is what's best for the players currently on the roster. Jason Lamar - jlamar@espn1380.com Back |
