The Trojans of East Troy came into this game wanting to push tempo and once the game started they never let their foot off the gas. The Trojans improved to (8-0) on the season with a dominating win 90-34 against Big Foot (3-4) on Thursday night.
The Trojans out matched Big Foot from the very tip, with brothers Brett and Alex Prahl both 6’9 doing whatever they wanted in the post. Big Foot’s small lineup couldn’t get much going in the first quarter as the Trojans blocked every shot in the lane and ended the first quarter on a 7-0 run to lead 24-11.
“Our entire game plan for tonight was it get the ball inside, the Prahl brothers are our bread and butter,” said East Troy Head Coach Darryl Rayfield. The second quarter didn’t far much better for Big Foot, as they didn’t score a field goal until there was 4 minutes left to play before the half. East Troy put on full court press most of the game and made Big Foot turn the ball over a game changing 17 times.
East Troy shooting sensation Nate Dodge, the leading scorer in the North Valley Conference was all over the Big Foot players, getting four steals on the night and finishing with 15 points. His sharp shooting wasn’t needed as much in this game because of the height mismatches down low with the Prahl brothers. Brett finished the game with 17 points and 8 rebounds. Alex had a solid game as well pouring in 9 points and grabbing 6 rebounds.
The Trojans went into the locker room feeling good about their team defense. Making Big Foot turn the ball over 6 times in the second half while holding them to only 9 points in the second quarter offensively.
They looked very confused at times when the Trojans would pressure the ball at the point of attack. “We are trying to get our younger guys to buy into our defensive philosophy and it showed out there tonight,” said Rayfield.
Big Foot was lead in scoring by Bryan Colby who finished the game with 10 points, most of them coming from the free throw line. It didn’t help that they were caught multiple times standing around on defense watching the Trojans score at will.
After halftime East Troy’s first half dominance carried right over to the second half, making Big Foot shoot primarily from the perimeter. The Trojans held them to again only 6 points in the third quarter and Coach Rayfield emptied his bench with 2 minutes remaining in the third quarter.
The free throw line was good to the Trojans, going 18-24 and only committing 8 turnovers. “ I think our discipline is great with this team, they are all now gelling together and we need that come tournament time,” said Rayfield.
The fourth quarter was a game played by the bench of East Troy and the starters of Big Foot. Big Foot managed to squeeze out 8 points in the fourth quarter but the game was already out of hand. The Trojans keep their dominant play going and look to be a team that shouldn’t be taken lightly come March. The final score East Troy 90, Big Foot 34.
