Belvidere (10-2) @ Boylan (8-3) - Game of the Week
Friday, February 8
There has been a seemingly constant rotation of top teams in the NIC-10, but the Belvidere Bucs have managed to hold onto the number one spot. The Bucs have not lost a conference game since January 18th when they fell to East (63-55). Belvidere continues to get their scoring from a number of sources. Junior Joe Byers leads the team in scoring, averaging 13 points per game. Since the loss to East, Kane Steger has put up double digits in each conference game, including 24 points and four assists against Harlem on January 26th.
Belvidere has also been fortunate in avoiding the injury bug that has plagued other teams in the NIC-10. The Boylan Titans, however, are just recently getting back to full strength. Frank Cimino, who had been out with a broken jaw since December, is back in the lineup. Drew Guarke also made his return against East last week, after breaking his wrist in the first week of the season. With the pieces of their offense back together, the Titans have more options than relying on Brock Stull, who has scored a combined 40 points in the last two games.
The Bucs have been consistent, but Boylan is gaining the momentum to take over the top spot in the conference.
