Crimson Tide Keep Conference Win Streak Going

The Edgerton High boy’s basketball team continues to roll.  The Crimson Tide (4-0) erupted for 24 points in the first quarter and coasted to a 79-54 Rock Valley Conference crossover win over the Brodhead Cardinals (1-3) on Thursday night.

Crimson Tide Head Coach Jason Knott said before the game that he wanted to play fast and keep the game as up-tempo as possible.  His squad was able to do just that as they took a 16-6 lead minutes into the first quarter.

“We are a team that likes to run as much as we can, on offense and defensive side of the ball, we have enough talented players on this team that when we run, we can create spacing for our outside shooters.” said coach Knott.  One of those outside shooters is three-point specialist Jake Fox; Fox was 2 for 2 on his shots beyond the arc in the first quarter.

The Tide played a full court press most of the game, which gave the Cardinals trouble inbounding the ball, causing four Cardinals turnovers in the first.  The Tide lead 24-13 after one quarter and didn’t let up in the second. The Tide pushed the lead to 43-30 at halftime; this was the closest that the Cardinals would get to the Tide all game long.

The third quarter belonged all too Jacob Zeimet’s, the Tide power forward poured in 13 points and held the Cardinals to only 10 points in the third quarter.  The Tide worked the post all quarter, taking advantage of the size mismatch of about five inches over any Cardinal player.

The Tide led 67-40 after the third and cruised to the victory, putting up 12 more points in the final quarter to get the win 79-54 to stay undefeated and still in first place a top the Rock Valley North.  The Tide needed this win because the schedule gets a little easier the next few games, with matchups against struggling Palmyra-Eagle and McFarland.

Sophomore Ned Slocum of the Cardinals did all he could to get his team back in the game with his 15 points but there just wasn’t enough scoring to go around.  The only other bright stop on the Cardinals squad was guard Josiah DeLorme putting in 23 points in the loss.  Zeimet had 23 points to lead Edgerton while Fox added 16.  Edgerton will play at Palmyra-Eagle next week and Brodhead will visit East Troy.
