Parkview 2-2 (2-5) at Evansville 2-2 (3-5) - Game of the Week
7 p.m., Tuesday, December 17th
This Rock Valley Cross Conference Matchup takes two teams looking for a bright spot to turn their season around. Evansville Blue Devils are coming off a 56-49 home loss to Barneveld and Parkview Knights got dominated last game 62-37 against McFarland. The Blue Devils sit with a .500 record but in the Rock Valley North there isn’t much separation in the standings with four teams tied with the same record. The player to watch for this Blue Devils squad is freshman Brennan Banks, standing at 5’11 he isn’t the biggest guy on the court but his stat line would say different. Banks averaging 22 ppg is the go-to player that the team relies on for points in crunch time. Their two conference wins this season are nothing to turn your head about, with wins against struggling McFarland and Big Foot. Former Devils quarterback Matt Sperry is the senior vocal leader for this team, averaging 12 ppg and is the big post player Banks can get the ball too. The Knights main game is low post scoring and it should be with the great talent they have down low. Their team is made up of mostly seniors with four out of the five starters being upper classman. Garrett Reinhardt, 6’6 forward is the leading scorer on the team with 16 ppg but also the second leading scorer in the Rock Valley South. Sperry and the Blue Devils will have their work cut out for them down low trying to guard against Reinhardt and sharp shooter Christian Hobson. Hobson can bump down low but also have a great long range ball, pouring in 17 points in their lose to McFarland. The Knights also don’t have big wins in conference, with wins over Big Foot and Palmrya-Eagle. This game doesn’t have the best players in the conference in it but there is some great talent on both of these teams and it should be a low scoring, close game. The Blue Devils will need to play excellent post defense if they want to win this game and the Knights will need to find a way to stop Banks if they want to get the road win. I think that Parkview will get the win over Evansville, but it will be close. My prediction is Parkview 52 – Evansville 45.
Beloit Turner 3-1 (4-2) at Jefferson 3-1 (6-1)
7 p.m., Tuesday, December 17th
This cross conference matchup should be a treat for basketball fans around the area. Turner is hungry coming off a close loss to Whitewater last week 56-54 and the Jefferson Eagles coming off a big win against Clinton 72-59. Turner is still on top of the Rock Valley South but the standings are getting tighter with a talented Parkview team right behind them. Turner’s fantastic freshman Alec Fruin is doing it all for his team right now, averaging 15 ppg and playing above his years. Their point guard, senior Anthony Payton is the catalyst of this team though and also brings 14 ppg to the table. The Eagles are also on a roll after dropping their first game of the season they have won three straight. They know that if they want a chance to win the Rock Valley North they must stay pace with undefeated Edgerton. Forward Vinny Cincotta is the leading scorer on the Eagles squad with 19 ppg and 9 rpg. Both of these teams are very well matched and it should be a great defensive battle. Payton has great ball handling skills and gets his teammates involved on almost every play. The Eagles have only lost one game at home and Turner has struggled on the road this year so I will give the slight edge to the Eagles in this game. I predict that Jefferson will beat Beloit Turner, 55-47.
